Program Requirements

Students who complete the Honors Program will have “Honors Program Graduate” added to their transcript in addition to receiving Latin Honors as appropriate.

To graduate from the Honors Program, a student must:

  • Enroll as a full time student at DSU
  • Meet and maintain a GPA of 3.5 of higher
  • Complete Honors Coursework Requirements

Overview of Requirements Beginning 2018-2019

Bachelor’s Level Required Honors Courses (24 credits minimum)

  • Honors Methods: HON 1010 (3 credits)
  • Honors Thesis: HON 4010 (or Program Capstone Course)
  • Complete 18 credits from the following as approved by the Honors Program:
    • General Education course with the HON designation (may be repeated up to 9 credits)
      • At least 2 academic divisions (e.g. social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences/mathematics) must be represented among the 3 honors courses used to complete this requirement
    • Honors Special Topics: HON 3010 (may be repeated up to 9 credits)
    • Experiential Learning Activity (up to 3 credits)

Students with 60+ Credits Required Honors Courses (15 credits minimum)

  • Honors Methods: HON 1010 (3 credits)
  • Honors Thesis: HON 4010 (or Program Capstone Course)
  • Complete 9 credits from the following as approved by the Honors Program:
    • Honors Special Topics: HON 3010 (may be repeated up to 9 credits)
    • Experiential Learning Activity (up to 3 credits)

Associate’s Level Required Honors Courses (12 credits minimum)

  • Honors Methods: HON 1010 (3 credits)
  • Complete 9 credits from the following:
    • General Education course with an HON designation (may be repeated up to nine (9) credits)
      • At least 2 academic divisions (social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences/mathematics) must be represented among the 3 honors courses used to complete this requirement
    • Honors Special Topics: HON 3010 (up to 3 credits)
**Honors students come to us with a variety of academic experience, goals, and scheduling needs. Recognizing this, the Honors Program is flexible and, where appropriate, can substitute particular requirements.

Complete 9 credits from the following:

  • Honors Topics: HON 3010 (3 credits)

Honors Thesis: HON 4010 (3 credits)
